Heimito von Doderer: A Person Made of Porcelain and Other Stories |
||||||||||||||||||||||||
Heimito von Doderer: A Person Made of Porcelain and Other Stories. Translated by Vincent Kling (Studies in Austrian Literature, Culture, and Thought: Translation Series). Doderer's enormous achievement in the novel has tended to cast his shorter fiction into the shadows, despite a number of studies over the years, including a full volume of the Doderer Society's own publications. The short pieces are especially overlooked outside the German-speaking world; this volume hopes to remedy that neglect. By turns grotesque and lyrical, outrageous and poetic, the short stories are presented here as a larger grouping for the first time in English. While not all of Doderer's short fiction could be included, this volume from Ariadne Press includes most of the short stories and all six of the pieces Doderer called "Erzaehlungen".
